Admission Process

Young Children Community: Children must be between approx. 18 months to 2.5 years old and must be walking/running independently and following simple directions.

Children’s House Program: Children should be between 2.5 years and 6 years of age and must be toilet independent. Manageable behavior and a level of understanding are expected.

Lower & Upper Elementary Programs: Students must be at least 6 years old by December 31st of the school year to be eligible for Grade 1 enrollment. For subsequent grades, students must be a year older than the minimum age required for Grade 1.

Students entering our Children’s House and Elementary Programs will be assessed, interviewed and then placed into an appropriate program/grade level at the sole discretion of the school.

All admissions are contingent on space availability in the program. Unfortunately, guarantees are not made for desired placement, which is dependent upon available space. Re-enrolment of current students is also subject to space availability at the time that completed re-enrolment paperwork and deposit, including Materials and Field Trip Fees, are submitted.

Hamilton Montessori School reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to decline acceptance of any child or family, to withhold the issuance of enrollment or re-enrollment packages, or to refuse to finalize enrollment or re-enrollment at any stage of the process. These decisions are made in the best interest of the school community and will be determined solely by Hamilton Montessori School.

Hamilton Montessori School actively challenges students to demonstrate academic success and to develop the skills necessary to become personally successful, socially co-operative, and actively engaged citizens. The school is not intended to, and may not, serve all prospective students equally well. To ensure and to maximize the achievement of academic success and the development of emotional and social skills for all of its students, Hamilton Montessori School restricts student admissions to only those students who already demonstrate all of the following:

  1. the knowledge and ability necessary to achieve academic success;
  2. an independently-motivated work ethic to enthusiastically achieve such academic success; and
  3. the well-developed emotional (intra-personal) and social (inter- personal) skills necessary to become personally successful, socially co-operative, and actively engaged.

Both parents and/or legal guardians and children are required to attend a scheduled appointment for a tour, interview, and when necessary, an assessment with a school representative. During this visit, families may have the opportunity to observe a classroom in session during regular operational hours. The teacher and school representative will observe and potentially assess the child during this time. Additionally, parents will receive a comprehensive overview of the program, and any questions regarding policies, schedules, tuition fees, staff qualifications, discipline, and other matters will be addressed.

Re-enrolment Procedure: Parents may apply for re-enrolment for the upcoming school year. However, the school reserves the sole discretion to accept or decline re-enrollment requests.

By submitting a student application form, parents authorize Hamilton Montessori School to conduct background checks, request references and contact the child’s current or previous educational institutions (whether public or private) for personal or educational (OSR) references or documentation, as deemed necessary by HMS.

Waitlist Policy In compliance with Ontario Regulation 137/15, Hamilton Montessori School does not maintain a waitlist. Therefore, we do not charge or collect any fees or deposits for placing a child on a waiting list for admission.
