Young Children's Community Program
(Toddler Program)

18 months (approx.) to 2.5 years

The Young Children’s Community program at Hamilton Montessori School will allow the child to develop physically, cognitively, socially, intellectually and emotionally.

Each day, we will guide our toddlers in the following areas:

  • Practical Life Activities such as using a spoon, broom or buttons
  • Manipulative work to use a two- or three-finger pincer grip which will become necessary for writing
  • Sensory work such as bead stringing, cutting, sewing and sorting to build fine motor development
  • Language development using materials such as picture cards, songs, books and poems
  • Gross motor development in our gymnasium and playground where toddlers will play with sand, water, balls and climbing equipment
  • Independence as the child learns to dress and undress themselves, eat independently, clean up after themselves and practice independent toileting

By the end of our Toddler Montessori Program, our children should be able to:

  • Feel confident and comfortable in new places and with new people
  • Independently care for themselves, others and their environment
  • Have independent toileting abilities
